He was also very taditional with having nicknames for enemies like with most earlier Clone Troopers, to which most later Clones like Tup, didn't really carry-on the tradition of nicknaming enemies. He was often very sensitive, and didn't always follow every order to whom he knew what was right and what was wrong other than the fact that he became very sensitive towards the end of the Clone Wars due to his experiences on Umbara and with the conspiracies revolving around Tup and Fives. Many of his platoon sergeants and specialists met their untimely fate throughout the duration of the Clone Wars, though one particular officer who was previously declared KIA ( Echo) was reinstated (albeit demoted to reserve status).ĭuring 5 BBY, him and two other clone officers ( Gregor and Wolffe) lived in a salvaged AT-TE walker while they remained in exile in the Outer Rim prior to their discovery by the Lothal Rebels. Rex had many platoon sergeants (such as Denal and Coric), specialists ( Hardcase and Kix) and other enlisted officers in which he took command of and assigned duties to. Such as: Luminara Unduli and the 41st Elite Corps., Ki-Adi-Mundi and the 21st Nova Corps., rogue Jedi General Pong Krell, and Clone Unit 99 ("The Bad Batch"). He was also placed or assigned to other units and Jedi, and took command of others as well. He fought and participated in many battles with Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, Padawan Commander Ahsoka Tano, and was often seen alongside Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi and the 212th Attack Battalion. He was trained under the same program team alongside Bly, Cody, and Gree. Rex began as a simple rookiee Clone Officer trained under Alpha 17's Marshall Officer training program during the beginning of the Clone Wars. clone battalion under the command of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Padawan Commander Ahsoka Tano, and Admiral (later Captain) Wullf Yularen.Īn example of Rex in his full original Phase 1 armor. The only comfort Rex will achieve is toppling the Empire in the Battle of Endor many years later, when the Clones are little more than a distant memory.Clone Captain Rex (CC-7567/CT-7567) was an Elite (later Veteran) Clone Officer who served in the 501st Torrent Co. The proud allies of the Jedi were always disposable pawns in the Emperor's plans, meant to be sadly forgotten by the galaxy once their usefulness had passed. Rex's appearance on Rebels indicates he cannot accomplish much, and the Empire has made moves to ensure it remains ahead of the game in preventing the Clone Troopers from being able to fight back. What makes Rex's goal to liberate his brothers tragic is that the audience knows he cannot be allowed to win. As Rex himself mused, the Empire is already a step ahead of him in trying to hamper his efforts. Furthermore, Doctor Hemlock has made moves to hunt down the Bad Batch, whose ties to Rex greatly endanger his group's chances of success. Palpatine was able to flawlessly pull a victory by spinning the exposure of Admiral Rampart's destruction of Kamino into a rallying cry against the Clone Troopers, despite Rex intending the opposite to happen. More tragically, Rex and his companions being seen as senior citizens, instead of the soldiers they once were, suggests the eventual loss of Senator Chuchi and other allies, leaving the Empire triumphant in rendering the Clones a mere footnote in history.Įven on The Bad Batch, events have transpired to suggest Rex's Clone rescue operation is fighting a battle it cannot win. The fact the Clones are hiding out on a barren planet, with little equipment and no starship, also implies the Empire will successfully defeat his operation. He lacks the Bad Batch and his former soldier Echo at his side, with Gregor his only companion left from what viewers have seen of his operation. Rex's condition on Rebels paints a rather grim picture for his mission on The Bad Batch. While the Spectres do convince Rex to leave and help in the Rebellion, it seems that he had given up on stopping the Empire before this point. They find he is living a life of retired solitude with fellow Clones Gregor and Wolffe on Abafar, no longer fighting or in contact with anyone in the galaxy. When the crew of the Ghost is instructed by Ahsoka Tano to pick up an old ally, they discover that her friend is Rex. Star Wars Rebels already showed that Rex's life ahead is a rather miserable one.
